A good matcha latte is smooth, gently sweet and that unmistakable soft green. You do not need a café or a barista to make one — five minutes and a whisk will do. Here is a simple recipe that works with any milk, hot or iced.
What you need
One teaspoon of matcha, a little hot (not boiling) water, and about a cup of your milk of choice — dairy, oat, almond or coconut all work beautifully. Optional: a small drizzle of honey if you like it sweeter. A bamboo whisk gives the best froth, but a handheld milk frother or a jar with a tight lid works too.
The method
Sift the matcha into a cup to avoid lumps. Add two tablespoons of hot water and whisk briskly until smooth and slightly frothy — this step is what keeps the latte silky rather than powdery. Warm and froth your milk, then pour it over the matcha. For an iced latte, whisk the matcha with cold water instead, fill a glass with ice, add milk, and pour the matcha over the top for that beautiful layered look.
Make it yours
Adjust the matcha to taste — more for a bolder, greener cup, less for a mellow one. A drop of vanilla or a pinch of cinnamon is a lovely addition. Because Lavina’s Organic Premium Matcha is finely ground, it dissolves smoothly and gives a clean, rich flavour that stands up well to milk.
