Black tea is the everyday cup for much of the world — rich, full-bodied and satisfying, whether you take it plain, with milk, or with a slice of lemon. It is also the tea most woven into daily life across the region. This guide covers what black tea is, how to brew it well, and how to choose your blend.
What makes black tea ‘black’
Like green tea, black tea comes from the tea plant. The difference is oxidation: black tea leaves are fully oxidised after picking, which turns them dark and gives the tea its deeper colour, bolder flavour and higher caffeine. That fuller body is why black tea stands up so well to milk.
How to brew a great cup
Black tea likes freshly boiled water — unlike delicate green tea, it will not scorch. Steep for three to five minutes depending on how strong you like it. Longer steeping makes a bolder, more robust cup; if it turns too astringent, simply steep for less time next round. Add milk, lemon or a little honey to taste.
Choosing your black tea
Lavina offers a classic Prime Black Tea for a bold, dependable everyday cup, and Earl Grey, scented with bright bergamot for something more aromatic and distinctive. Prime Black is perfect with breakfast or milk; Earl Grey is lovely in the afternoon, on its own or with a slice of lemon. Every Lavina tea is crafted in Jordan from 100% natural ingredients, with no additives or preservatives.
